The Cave
Michael Steinberg & Tegan West

A sense of bored familiarity sets in while watching this story of a crack team of deep-sea divers exploring a subterranean waterway who run smack dab into a pack of bloodthirsty mutants. Borrowing liberally from superior creature flicks such as Aliens and Predator, the plot moves at lightning speed but skimps on character development. Since we don't really know the members of the dive team we aren't that affected whenever one of them gets eaten, and there is little to do but wait impatiently for the next set piece. Extras include a refreshingly candid audio commentary by writers Steinberg and West who detail the origins of the script (penned back in 1995), and how its story elements and characters changed on the journey to the screen.
