Another Time, Another Place

Screenplay by Stanley Mann
Based on the novel by Lenore Coffee

When British war correspondent Mark Trevor (Sean Connery) breaks off his affair with American journalist Sara Scott (Lana Turner) to return to his family on the Cornish coast, it becomes clear that Another Time, Another Place is not going to be a romance. When he's killed in a plane crash, the trajectory of the story becomes incomprehensible until Scott meets his widow, Kat (Glynis Johns), and begins to collate his broadcasts into a book. After a bloated first-act romance replete with overly sentimental dialogue, the story takes an obsessive, almost Single White Female-esque, turn as Scott infiltrates her lost lover's life and begins a relationship with his survivors. As she tries to hang onto the man who tossed her aside, Scott's inability to move on is contrasted by the Trevors' rebuilding of their lives in the shadow of Mark's death. Some marvelous scenes capture the selfishness of adultery, while Kay's journey illustrates the possibilities for a happy future.
