He's Got Character

Chancer: Season 2

Guy Andrews and Simon Burke

After a bold season opener reformats the series, year two of Chancer finds charismatic gambler Derek “Dex” Love (Clive Owen) attempting to rebuild his life after a stint in prison and the death of his beloved Jo Franklyn (Susannah Harker). The ongoing narrative of the seven-episode season places Dex in partnership with Piers Garfield-Ward (Simon Shepherd)—his one-time opponent for Jo’s affections—as the two men try to save the latter’s aristocratic estate and rescue Jo’s illegitimate baby from her unscrupulous father (Peter Vaughan). Writers Guy Andrews and Simon Burke cram an astonishing amount of plot and character development into the truncated season and revel in Dex’s ability to think outside the box and put his morals aside when the situation demands.
