Ron Koslow's modern re-telling of Beauty and the Beast becomes a different animal in its third and final season when the departure of actress Linda Hamilton results in the death of Catherine Chandler, the eponymous “Beauty.”  Killed off after giving birth to the child of the leonine outcast Vincent (Ron Perlman), Catherine continues to haunt the series through frequent uses of stock footage as her lover seeks to recover their child in the season-long arc that follows.  Police officer Diana Bennett (Jo Anderson), who is gifted with an almost psychic capacity for criminal profiling, joins Vincent in his quest to bring Catherine’s killer to justice, and though she cannot duplicate the romantic bond that drove the earlier seasons, her kinship with the Beast has a magic of its own that could easily have developed had the series continued.  The writers make a valiant effort to transcend the original format, but Catherine’s shadow over the proceedings only reminds the viewer that they are watching a different show since her death.  As with previous seasons, no extras are offered.
