The Last Detective: Series 3

Kevin Clarke, Russell Lewis, Matthew Thomas, and Tim Vaughan
Series devised for television by Richard Harris
Based on the Dangerous Davies novels by Leslie Thomas

Based on the novels of Leslie Thomas, The Last Detective chronicles the cases of Detective Constable "Dangerous" Davies (Peter Davison), whose moniker is a sarcastic commentary on the lack of danger he faces in the pursuit of his police work. Whereas most police dramas focus on precinct prodigies, Davies is an ode to cops who solve their cases with legwork and a little luck only to come home and find their personal lives in pieces. With each episode running 70 minutes, the writers have 60% more screen time to develop their stories than a comparable American procedural would allow, and the breathing room allows the plot to unfold with plenty of character moments filling out the beats. Dubbed "the last detective" because he's the last cop you'd assign a case to, Davies is what Lieutenant Columbo pretends to be—a good guy muddling his way through with humor, humanity, and hope that he's making the world a better place
as he investigates the murders of a washed-up rock star, an abusive ex-Army man, and other outsiders not unlike himself.
