Waiting for God: Season 2

Michael Aitkens

Disgruntled septuagenarians Tom Ballard (Graham Crowden) and Diana Trent (Stephanie Cole) continue their respective campaigns of feigned senility and genuine misanthropy against the exploitative management of their cut-rate retirement community in the 10-episode second season of Waiting for God.  Writer Michael Aitkens stretches his storytelling style with his sophomore season by developing continuing stories [the brief fascist reign of the community by newcomer Daisy (Jane Downs)], delving deeper into his supporting cast [Tom's son (Andrew Tourell) develops a spine], and addressing geriatric concerns (Diana's hip replacement).  Mixing biting satire with heartfelt pathos, the scripts serve as a humorous revolt against a society that stows its elderly away like broken-down furniture while using the diametrically opposite viewpoints of Tom and Diana to approach issues from varied perspectives.  A featurette on Stephanie Cole is the only extra.
