Created by Matt Nix

Matt Nix combines the know-how of MacGyver with David E. Kelley-esque characterizations to create a post-modern spy series in USA’s Burn Notice.  Unexpectedly retired from his life as an intelligence operative and exiled to Miami, Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) avoids his chain-smoking, hypochondriac mother (Sharon Gless) by taking on odd jobs of a dangerous nature.  Backed up by Navy SEAL-turned-gigolo (and FBI informant) Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) and former IRA terrorist (and ex-girlfriend) Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar), Westen uses his skills to rescue kidnap victims, clear the wrongly accused, and thwart evildoers while investigating the mysterious figure who initiated his disenfranchisement.  Alongside the witty dialogue and clever plot twists, the series gets a lot of mileage from Westen’s voiceovers, which offer inside information on such spy techniques as tailing a suspect, infiltrating secure locations, and constructing booby traps.  Nix and his stars offer scene-specific commentaries that cover every episode.
